Ana Vergara: Beauty and Beyond in Business

“Anyone who knows me knows I like bling,” says Ana Vergara, hair and makeup stylist.

Her taste for highlighting life with things shiny does not so much distract Ana, as diversify the types of services her company offers and the markets Classic Glamour Dolls Inc. (CGD) can reach.

CGD’s primary and original business, spread steadily through word of mouth and referrals, is that of hair and makeup stylists for individual or group makeovers, or on call for special events. Those events might be runway fashion shows and shoots, TV, film or commercial photo sessions. CGD team members also add their magical touch at lifecycle events such as weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, bachelorette parties and a current trend to girls’ night out. Their presence may consist of a makeover or a workshop.

While the team’s CGD trademark look promotes the vintage eras of Hollywood and evokes the glamour and the sweeping styles of the 20s, 30s and 40s, Ana is clear on the professional priority. “We do what our clients need for their occasion or for the runway and fashion event we are at, but for our own appearances we mix styles.”

What Ana loosely calls “projects” in the course of our interview are the building blocks of a beautiful empire.
Already available through the online store at the main website (ClassicGlamourDolls.com) are popular Logo tops and tanks. The ‘Beauty to the Bone’ line of tops has proved to be a hot ticket for online buyers who can also browse sport and beach wear choices in all sizes.
Flowers, specifically those based on the original one Ana crafted for herself, are a signature accessory sold and shipped all over the world. Flowers join fascinator style hats as special occasion and wedding wear.
Bling and the jewellery that Ana loves in her personal accessories have influenced CGD lines, with just that tiny shiny touch of the extraordinary.

In development is a cosmetic line, waiting its turn for introduction.

Have Kit, Will Travel

Products also appear for sale at live events and where ‘the Dolls’ provide onsite services. Here Logo wear proves to be the hottest item while “Beauty to the Bone” gear is most in demand online.

Ana and her team are mobile. “We arrive and are fully equipped with all the necessities in our hair and makeup kits.” The team is also prepared to personalize.

“Most makeup artists know the retro look we promote and that our clients request, but I research a lot.” Ana digs into the sources of a look and how it was applied then, and how it can be modified to best beauty advantage now.

“It’s about finding the right image and fit for each person.” Ana brings out the fun but when she or her team show up, they are also serious about getting it right. “You get real close to a person when you are entrusted with their special look.”

Glam has hit the road for commercial clients as well as for fundraisers. Classic Glamour Dolls contributed to events around California and the West Coast and then to Germany as part of the Pin-Ups For Vets tours with Gina Elise to VA hospitals and health care facilities. A recent Pin-Ups for Vets partnership also took Ana off to Colorado with a stop at Dragons and Dragoons (Facebook Page) to meet fans in the store and to support active duty troops at nearby Ft. Carson.

Building an empire takes time and effort!  Next up, Ana shares insights and advice.
