Tonight 91/11/25 I stopped eating at 6:30 and then found one tiny piece of sourdough I defrosted to have with some topping to have a non-sweet or fruity chew after a soup and salad dinner.

Janus, the god of endings, beginnings and transitions
- Wow, I couldn’t even get to the end of my first sentence in this New Year declaration before I realized I was already breaking the rules.
That little piece – a ‘corner’ slice of a round beautiful crust-covered sourdough was an experiment. The baker, Sacheen Desai and his new company Cultured Foods, and I traded some silicone baking mats I had advertised in Facebook Marketplace, with a new blue spatula to match the trim colour, for a sampler of 3 types of bread. Included, was the size of a dime bag of ‘grass’ with seeds I had seen in the 70s. But this time they had his fermented zucchini slices, with whole garlic cloves, cumin and maybe some thinly sliced white onion.. not sure about the onion. And another bag of kimchi. Both were delicious and all the samples were so satisfying and full of flavour that to me at least, they were all instantly highly addictive.
The experiment was eating whole grain products and bread… but with the gluten and other thingies, pre-digested by the super long fermentation process. Plus the tops of the bread had a beautiful design embedded.
THE PLAN
The intention, however, was to stop eating at 6:30 .. and then also refrain from the blue light of screens and the bright light of overhead lights, no longer incandescent, so economical but a bit harsher than I’d like.
The solution was to go offline lower the lights and read from a hard copy REAL BOOK. This always made me sleepy as a bonus..
Also.. eventually remember to meditate. I paid the student rate for a mantra in the mid-1970s while at university. Might as well wield the power of that sound, or is it a pseudo-word?
OK.. so on the try my best list:
Eat earlier.
Take my evening supplements while my liver and pancreas as still on duty to deal with the ingredients.
Move my body after I eat to help that glucose get to the best places and not turn 100% into fat.
Read a book to calm my system and dim lights so that my eyes and circadian rhythm click in for an ideal nighttime wind down..
OK.. back to the high-fibre hummus (and thinly sliced purple raw onion, mmmm) and tiny toasted in a small enamel frypan, the super chewy slice… and perchance, in due course.. to sleep. Early.
